2011 CJJ National Youth Committee Retreat
Registration is open for the Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) National Youth Committee Planning Retreat. The planning retreat will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 28-29, 2011, immediately following the CJJ Western Region Conference, hosted by the New Mexico State Advisory Group.
All are welcome to join! The retreat is open to all youth SAG members, whether active with the CJJ National Youth Committee or new to the SAG or to CJJ. The Planning Retreat brings together Youth SAG members from across the country to update, inform and put into action the Committee’s work plan and to advise CJJ on its work in support of youth members. Overall, the Retreat is aimed at supporting and enhancing the growing youth presence and leadership in SAGs, nationwide.
At this year’s retreat, we plan to discuss the following areas of focus: 1) providing support to Youth SAG members; 2) providing support to SAGs and states in the recruitment, engagement, leadership development and retention of youth on SAGs; 3) training and technical assistance to SAGs to further develop strong youth-adult partnerships and youth-directed committees.

If you’re interested in attending the planning retreat, please:
- Make your room reservation before August 20, 2011: A room block rate of $81/night is available at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, 800 Rio Grande Boulevard NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104. We’ve reserved a limited number of rooms especially for the youth committee planning retreat and they’re available on a first come, first served basis, until August 20, 2011. To reserve a room, please call 800-237-2133 and reference “Coalition for Juvenile Justice Western Region Conference.”
- Register: Please email full contact information of the person attending to Idit Knaan, CJJ’s Program Associate: knaan@juvjustice.org.
- Ask your SAG to consider sponsoring you/youth members to attend. Regrettably, CJJ does not have the funds in place to support youth SAG members traveling or to cover room nights for the Retreat. There is no additional fee to register or participate. Sponsorship would include covering the cost of air, rail or automobile transportation to Albuquerque, NM, as well as lodging, some meals and ground transportation.
Finally, youth attending the retreat are encouraged to join the Western Region conference, if time and funds allow: please click here for more information.
