President Obama's 2012 Budget Proposal

The Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) has analyzed the President’s proposed budget for juvenile justice and is working on behalf of our members and allies, nationwide, to respond at multiple levels of government.

We share the widespread concern that the budget as proposed does not provide certain support for all states, territories and DC to achieve and sustain compliance with the JJDPA core requirements and does not provide all states, territories and DC with equal opportunities for excellence in juvenile justice reform. CJJ’s support for JJDPA reauthorization called for more substantial federal resources to states to adhere to higher standards of practice, reform and stronger core requirements.

Please click below to download:

  1. CJJ’s letter to President Obama and the Administration requesting a change in the budget proposal to ensure that allocations for the Title II State Formula Grants are available to all 56 U.S. states, territories and DC, to advance the core requirements and goals of the JJDPA.
  2. CJJ’s Summary of the Impact of the Proposed Change and Recommendation to the White House and the Congress.
  3. A template letter for State Advisory Groups (SAGs): please write to your U.S. Senators to reinforce the recommended change from CJJ for the benefit of youth and community safety in your own states, and email copies of your letters to CJJ.
Many thanks for your dedication to advancing federal juvenile justice priorities at the state level. We stand with you.
