CJJ | CJJ's Southern Regional Conference

Charleston, SC

The Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) Southern Region, led by Chairperson Linda Hayes and Conference Planning Committee Chairperson John Dewese, held its Southern Region Conference at the Embassy Suites Downtown Charleston, SC, on January 29-31, 2010.

The conference focused on working with the media to promote juvenile justice reform and to strengthen the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act’s Four Core Requirements. The conference featured keynote addresses by Melodee Hanes, Acting Deputy Administrator for Policy at OJJDP, and the Honorable William Byars, Jr, Director, South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, a judicial leadership panel, core requirements training for State Advisory Group (SAG) members, a youth leadership training, a Southern Region Meeting and several other workshops designed to enhance the work of the region’s SAGs.
