CJJ 2023 Annual Conference, Council of SAGs’ Meeting, and Hill Day
May 24-26, 2023
The 2023 CJJ Annual Conference was themed, "Reenvisioning Youth Justice: Treating Young People as Individuals." The conference was held on May 24-26, 2023 at the Marriot Marquis in Washington, D.C.
The agenda is available here. To learn about the leaders who were recognized at the awards luncheon, click here.
Each year, the Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) hosts a national conference focused on improving juvenile justice and delinquency prevention systems, services, practices, and policies. More than 500 juvenile justice practitioners and advocates from across the U.S. and its territories joined together for this unique event.
The conference focused on the latest research, developments, and challenges facing the juvenile justice field. Specifically:
- Restructuring current practices to ensure young people receive individualized services and support.
- Collaborating with one another to more holistically address young people's needs.
- Discovering how states and communities can serve as leaders in shaping a better juvenile justice system for our most vulnerable youth.
- Improving collaborations with young people and families with lived experiences in the systems we work with.
- Studying the role advocacy plays as communities seek to improve services and provide trauma-responsive care for children and youth.

Hill Day 2023!
CJJ and its Government Relations Committee hosted their annual Hill Day on May 24th, 2023 to kick off CJJ's Annual Conference. This one-of-a-kind opportunity informed Congress of the importance of supporting our most vulnerable youth.
Congresspeople heard from the juvenile justice community, and were encouraged to:
- Ensure robust federal appropriations for juvenile justice in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget; and
- Support reauthorization of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.
